SAFC Face Switchbacks FC Saturday at Toyota Field

San Antonio FC fell 0-4 to the Houston Dynamo (MLS) in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday. The loss eliminated SAFC from the tournament in their third appearance in the competition this season.

“Houston Dynamo just went through a coaching change, and when that happens you expect a very competitive, strong team put together,” said SAFC Head Coach Darren Powell. “Hopefully the guys can learn from tonight, and we’ll get better come the weekend.”

The Dynamo opened the scoring in the 39th minute when forward Mauro Manotas dribbled across the top of the SAFC box and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Josh Ford for the 1-0 lead.

Houston doubled their lead in first half stoppage time when a deflected cross from midfielder David Rocha found the feet of midfielder Alex Lima, who tapped it in from point-blank range.

Defender Raul Rodriguez and midfielder Leonel Miranda put their names on the score sheet within six minutes of each other in the second half, earning their team the 4-0 lead and concluding the Dynamo’s scoring.

San Antonio FC will return to USL action on Saturday, June 18th as they host Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Toyota Field at 7:30 p.m. The match will be the club’s first at home in over three weeks.
