San Antonio FC (4-7-3) will travel to face OKC Energy FC (5-4-6) at Taft Stadium on Saturday, June 15 at 8 p.m. The game marks the ninth matchup overall between the two clubs in regular season play as SAFC looks to earn their second consecutive win.
The Alamo City club heads into the match after earning a thrilling 3-2 win over Reno 1868 FC at Toyota Field last weekend. The club initially trailed 0-2 before rallying back to a victory with goals from Ever Guzman as well as local teenagers Ethan Bryant and Jose Gallegos.
OKC Energy FC heads into the match after bowing out of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup following a 0-4 loss at the hands of FC Dallas in the fourth round of the tournament. The Energy is currently unbeaten in their previous five league matches and sits in sixth place in the Western Conference standings, scoring 21 goals while conceding the same amount.
SAFC is 1-1-6 all-time against OKC, most recently earning a 2-1 win at Taft Stadium in the club’s first road win against the Energy on July 28, 2018. The two clubs have scored five goals against each other overall in regular season play since 2016 and also met in the 2017 USL Cup Playoffs Western Conference Semifinals, where the Energy beat SAFC on penalties to advance to the conference final.
San Antonio FC will face a familiar foe in midfielder Omar Gordon, who joined OKC ahead of the 2019 season after spending time with the Alamo City club since 2017, during which he scored six goals in 35 appearances with the team.
On the other hand, midfielder Jack Barmby continues to establish himself as a catalyst for SAFC. The England native recorded his second assist of the season last Saturday to set up Gallegos’ winning goal, adding to his impressive 31 chances created and three goals so far this season. Meanwhile, forward Ever Guzman continues to build on his all-time leading goal tally for SAFC after notching his fifth goal of the campaign and 22nd in all competitions last weekend.
The match marks the first of two on the road for SAFC. The club will also take on Fresno FC on Friday, June 21 at 9:30 p.m. CT before returning to Toyota Field on Wednesday, June 26.
