Club Embarks on Three-Game Road Trip Following Saturday's Match

San Antonio FC (2-0-1) will host USL newcomers Reno 1868 FC (0-2-1) at Toyota Field on Saturday, April 15 at 7:30 p.m. The match will be the first time the two clubs face each other and the last home match before SAFC heads into a three-game road trip.

Coverage of the match will be available at SanAntonioFC.com and the USL Match Center.

San Antonio FC will look to keep their undefeated record on Saturday after starting the season with two wins and a draw. The club has scored five goals in three matches while conceding only one. SAFC recently earned a 1-1 draw against Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Toyota Field, and will strive to earn three points at home before heading into a three-match road trip in the Pacific Northwest.

“I think we started off on the right foot,” SAFC defender Sebastien Ibeagha said. “In our first two games we got two shutouts and four goals scored, and last weekend we conceded our first goal. We obviously don’t want that but I think overall we’ve done well.”

Reno 1868 FC will aim to earn their first win of the season. The club has scored four goals and conceded eight, and recently lost 5-3 against current Western Conference leaders Real Monarchs SLC. Prior to that, Reno earned a draw at home against Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 after opening their season with a 0-2 loss to Orange County SC.

SAFC currently leads the USL in conversion rate (31.3 percent) after scoring five goals out of 16 total shots. Midfielder Billy Forbes leads the team in goals scored (2), while four different players have gotten on the score sheet for the club. Meanwhile, SAFC goalkeeper Matt Cardone has saved nine out of 10 shots on target en route to the team’s two clean sheets so far this season.

“I think [the key] is to keep a shutout,” Ibeagha said. “If we keep a shutout then we’ll never lose a game, and I think that’s kind of what we base everything off of. We want to keep our opponents at zero [goals] and that’s all of our mentalities going in.”

The match will mark the last of three consecutive home matches for SAFC. The Alamo City club will then play three matches on the road in the span of seven days against Whitecaps FC 2, Seattle Sounders FC 2, and Portland Timbers 2.
